There are 10 days remaining in the 2021 Big Butterfly Count and the charity Butterfly Conservation really wants to put the western Low Weald “on-the-map”. It is such a lovely landscape for butterflies and home to the rare Wood White butterfly.

All of the species on the attached sheet could be found in the area (see below). Please take 15 minutes to count the butterflies near you, wherever you are. …and do more counts if you like!

It is one of the most enjoyable ways to spend 15 minutes!

The national BIG BUTTERFLY COUNT starts today.

To mark the launch in our area, this evening’s Meridian TV weather forecast will be broadcast live from Butterfly Conservation's Oaken Wood nature reserve in Chiddingfold Forest.

Please do take part in the count this year. It really is the perfect way to spend 15 minutes. The Western Low Weald is not just special for the incredibly rare Wood White butterfly; it is home to lots more beautiful butterflies and fascinating moths. I hope you will find 15 minutes in your day some time in the coming weeks to count your butterflies and submit the result via the webpage or free app. Even if you see none, that information is important too. Please do give it a try.
